Life begins ... when?

In Judaism we are taught that life begins at viability. That the soul enters the child at birth, when the child is able to breathe on its own. It is the act of the first breath that causes the soul to enter, immediately after G-d kisses the soul and sends it out to life. It is the memory of the kiss and of the unconditional love of G-d that causes the child to cry.

We recognize that the fetus is the great potential of human life. A potential that shouldn't be destroyed willy-nilly. But the life of the mother must come first, since she carries the child.

We believe and accept this notion because to do otherwise will condemn a woman to a murder charge (or the sin of murder) if she has a miscarriage. Something many Christian groups forget about.

Where do you get that a miscarriage is murder if this amendment passes?

If life begins at conception, then the act of miscarriage is a murder since the life is destroyed by the woman's body.

How do you prove a miscarriage? Many times a woman doesn't go to the doctor when they do lose the child. I know this from experience. I have had 9 miscarriages and never ran to the doctor when having them. Under this law, I would be guilty of murder without the proof of miscarriage.

Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you...

That's God himself talking. Not Jewish tradition.
