Yes. Hugh I. Shott, Jr. was my great uncle, and when he passed away, he formed a foundation to support worthwhile organizations and projects in the service area of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, of which he was editor/publisher for many years.
The Shott Foundation didn't just give a million to BC, it pledged $1 million in matching funds. That is very different than just handing over the money.
Feel blessed to be part of such an affluent family. Your social class is even more apparent in light of this and now there is no wonder why you hold your political and economic views.

My cousins all live elsewhere, except for my cousin John, an attorney who recently retired, my cousin Danny who is a truck driver, and my cousin Mike who is a businessman, and actually lives in NC. And I work at the Community Foundation of the Virginias, not exactly a mover and shaker paradise.
However, the family was a factor in the area twenty or so years ago.

My grandfather and my great uncle are dead.
My uncle Ned and my father are dead.
My uncle John and my uncle Scott are retired.
